I don’t know what to expect next

The therapist tended to be silent and have a neutral expression on her face. This made me feel uncomfortable as I didn’t know what was going on…she should have explained what therapy involved.

 If you’re feeling confused about what’s going on, and you don’t understand how the therapy is supposed to work, the first thing you need to do is talk about it with your therapist.  Ask for clarity about what will happen next.  The therapist may give you information in the session, but you can ask for this to be in written form if it will help you ‘get on board’ and feel you are an equal partner in the therapy.  Remember, you are aiming to feel committed to the goals of therapy, the tasks of therapy and you need to feel some basic trust for the therapist.
