If I had been able to assert myself right from the start of therapy and tell the therapist that certain things weren't okay, it would have helped.
Whether it is an assessment or a therapy session, it’s not unusual to have some concerns or worries once the session starts. You might have the thought, for example:
"Suppose I dont like the therapist?"
"What if I feel like they are rushing me?"
"What do I do if I don't understand what the therapist is asking me?"
A good way of dealing with this is to be very straight and say:
Excuse me, but I don’t understand what you are asking
Excuse me, could you repeat the question please?
Or, if feeling rushed, then say:
Could I say something?
I’m feeling rushed
